8th Street eastbound frontage road to reopen on Tuesday Major traffic shift coming over Fountain Creek bridge on Tuesday eveningThe eastbound frontage road from 8th Street to Highway 24 will reopen beginning Tuesday, March 3. Travelers should expect the road to open at 7 p.m., and motorists traveling on northbound 8th Street will see a major traffic shift over the Fountain Creek bridge.The center lanes of the bridge will close so crews can continue bridge rehabilitation. Northbound traffic will have one open lane across the bridge, while southbound traffic will have two open lanes. The new multi-use sidewalk on the east side of the bridge will also open as part of this traffic shift. This phase of construction is expected to last 2-3 weeks.Additionally, crews will continue to drill to locate utilities under 8th Street just south of the bridge. Drivers may experience occasional short-duration lane closures in both directions. Extra caution is advised while traveling through the work zone.Access to local businesses will remain open and clearly always marked. Please stay alert for workers and equipment, particularly on the Fountain Creek bridge, where construction will be occurring between northbound and southbound lanes.For more information on the…

Hancock Expressway at Circle Drive closing for four weeks
Starting on Monday, Feb. 16, Hancock Expressway at Circle Drive will close for approximately four weeks for bridge work related to the Circle Drive Bridges project.Northbound travelers can use South Circle Drive and westbound Highway 24, while southbound travelers can use eastbound Highway 24 and East Fountain Boulevard to access Academy Boulevard. This work is weather-dependent, and the schedule may change. South Academy Boulevard ramp to Milton Proby Parkway to close starting Monday
The southbound South Academy Boulevard on-ramp to eastbound Milton Proby Parkway will close at 6 a.m. on Monday, January 26. The closure allows for water and drainage utility upgrades in the area. This closure will be in place approximately until the end of May. This schedule depends on weather and is subject to change.Motorists should use Hancock Expressway to connect to eastbound Milton Proby Parkway. From Milton Proby Parkway, continue east to access Colorado Springs Airport via the designated detour route.This project is funded by voters through the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA). It is the first major rebuild of South Academy Boulevard since it opened in 1969. The north section was completed in late 2024. Colorado Springs Airport to Open Global Entry Enrollment Center Jan. 13 Colorado Springs Airport (COS) is pleased to announce the opening of a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Global Entry Enrollment Center in Olympic City, USA, on Jan. 13.Global Entry is a CBP Trusted Traveler Program that provides expedited processing for pre-approved, low-risk travelers upon arrival in the United States. Median, intersection improvements to make Garden of the Gods Road safer
The City of Colorado Springs plans to begin a median modification project to enhance safety on Garden of the Gods Road just west of Interstate 25 starting on Monday, Oct. 13. Additional work in November will focus on traffic signal improvements on Garden of the Gods Road, east of I-25. Construction for both work areas is expected to last a total of six to eight weeks. Construction west of I-25 will close the lanes adjacent to the medians within the construction area, from Chestnut Street to the I-25 interchange. The center lane in each direction may be closed during daytime hours. This means Garden of the Gods Road could be reduced to one lane each way at times during daytime hours. Motorists can expect short delays and should watch for safety signage and changing conditions.During construction:The construction site itself will prevent motorists from crossing six lanes of traffic from north to south, or vice versa.No left turns will be available from eastbound or westbound Garden of the Gods Road within the construction zone, from Chestnut Street to the I-25 interchange. The City of Colorado Springs is honored to announce the appointment of Jason T. Strickland as its new Chief Communications Officer. Strickland brings more than 25 years of leadership experience spanning the military, nonprofit, public service and private sectors. Most recently, he has served as Chief Communications Officer for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Rocky Mountain Network, leading a team of 22 people in establishing wide-reaching communications strategy across the region.  A retired Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army, Strickland has also served as a monthly columnist for The Colorado Springs Gazette and as the Chief Development Officer for a veteran-support nonprofit organization, further enriching his deep ties to the local community and veteran affairs. “I am pleased to welcome Jason to our team,” said Mayor Yemi. “He brings a wealth of experience and a deep heart for service to this role.
